After the whole G0LVH station spending several years in boxes I thought it was about time to set things up for operation again, so the weekend 12 & 13 December 2009 saw an 80 metre doublet antenna fed with homebrew ladder line set up to be tested and ready in good time for the G-QRP Club Winter Sports.

HF station comprises an old, I think early 1980s, Trio (Kenwood) TS-120V. This is a 10 watt HF transceiver covering 80, 40, 20, 15 & 10 metre bands, CW & SSB.

Unfortunately this rig didn't come with the optional CW filter installed and to get one now would probably cost more than the thing is worth, so I employ a homebrew CW filter using four switchable 741 op amps. While not in the same league as the modern digital filtering it certainly improves things significantly. Also there's no speech processor, so another piece of homebrew kit originally designed for the vintage Yaesu FT-200 packs that extra punch to the 10 watts of SSB.

For VHF another vintage piece of kit that I've used since first becoming licensed in 1983, a Yaesu FT-290R with a massive 2.5 watts output.

To get back into the hobby after several years absence I've joined my local club, Macclesfield & District Radio Society GX4MWS that meets every Monday evening.
